Flight Number One Completed
We’ve landed in San Francisco for our short layover on our way through Tokyo to Ho Chi Minh City.
It is so early. The roads were empty.
The day started way before the crack of dawn at 3:00 am. My amazing sister-in-law, Tracey picked us all up and drove us to the airport. We breezed through check in and security. I was still anxious, as I always am when flying, but the lite crowds and our extra early start made the morning much easier on the nerves.
The flight to San Francisco was also easy and we arrived 35 minutes early. Yay!
Nap time!
Coming into the Bay area
Landing at SFO
We’ve landed!
Moving sidewalks are fun. But I need the exercise since we’re going to be sitting for 10 hours.
As we wandered down a very long terminal, we notice a cool “coffee house robot”. So of course I had to give it a try. Well... it was fascinating to watch the robot do it’s thing but in the end our coffee either didn’t get delivered through the pickup window or the computer said there was an error with the order. We got our money refunded in any event. Starbucks doesn’t have to worry just yet.
The future of the coffee house? No, not yet anyway.
We’re now waiting to board our next, and longest flight, 10+ hours, to Tokyo. I’ve loaded up my phone with many many hours of classic movies and YouTube videos. Hopefully the time will pass uneventfully.
My next post will be from Tokyo!
Where are we going?
We start in Seattle and head to San Francisco for a connecting flight to Toyko. After a couple of hours in Tokyo we’re headed to Ho Chi Minh City. And that’s the start of our adventure in Vietnam!
We start in Ho Chi Minh City and then head out to Phu Quoc where we’re going to spend some time on the beach and exploring the island. Then back to Ho Chi Minh City for a day, to take a flight to Hanoi to tour the city. From Hanoi we head to Halong where we’re spending the night on a boat in Halong Bay. We will be fishing for shrimp and kayaking along the limestone islands. Then we take a flight to Da Nang and then we drive to Hoi An for the night market! So excited! A quick drive back to Da Nang and a flight to Tokyo for the second major leg of our journey.
We land in Tokyo where we plan on going to the Fish Market and visiting a temple or two and just general tourist sight seeing! We also plan to hike Mount Fuji. And tour more temples! Then we take the train to Kyoto where we will visit a few more temples. And then another train ride to Osaka we we plan on eating really well and visit Osaka Castle. Then back to Tokyo by train for our flight home.
And suffice it to say, we will be eating A LOT of awesome asian food. Prepare for many many photos of food!

This is all going to Fit?
We’re so excited for our trip! We are almost all packed. We just need to get everything into the bags!
Overpacked?
We leave at 3am tomorrow. I’ll be updating the blog with lots of photos along the way. So stay tuned!
